New Merged Library Website (preview)

Please note that the new site is still in development and you should continue to use the Hartness Library website until the switchover date.

Delivery of Physical Materials

Due to a staff shortage, we will not be able to provide print materials through Interlibrary Loan for the remainder of the spring semester. If we have the print material being requested it can be borrowed in-person. If the print material is available electronically we will work to secure the digital version through ILL or, if appropriate, purchase it for use. We will make every effort to work with folks around their requests. Please contact us for assistance.

Borrowing Items

Current students, faculty, and staff at CCV or Vermont Tech can borrow materials from Hartness Library collections in Randolph Center or Williston or from libraries at the other Vermont State Colleges (Castleton University, Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, or Northern Vermont University-Johnson). Materials can be checked out by visiting campus libraries or by requesting items online for delivery to your choice of Vermont Tech campus, Vermont Tech nursing site, CCV Academic Center, or your home address.

Request Items by Mail
After locating an item, click on the Place a Request link. screenshot Log in using your VSC Login and confirm where you’d like the materials sent. Contact us with any questions at the Hartness Library: 1-800-431-0025 or hartness@vsc.edu.
Delivery Time
Mailed books and DVDs take 7-14 business days to arrive. If an item isn’t available, you will be notified via e-mail within 3-5 business days. Please note that library items are sent through the postal service; if you need this item for a class, be sure to plan ahead to ensure you receive your item in time.
Limitations
The library does not lend:
  • Textbooks (login to CCV’s Online Bookstore or visit the Vermont Tech Bookstore to purchase or rent)
  • Items on course reserve
  • Magazines or journals
  • Bound periodicals
  • Some encyclopedias, reference books, indexes, or rare books
  • Archival materials

Interlibrary loan and overdue items cannot be renewed online. Contact the library directly to see if your loan period can be extended, or in the event that you experience any problems: 1-800-431-0025 or library@vtc.edu.
Returns

Drop off in person:

  • Hartness Library, Vermont Tech Randolph Center or Williston campuses
  • Front desk of any CCV Academic Center or Vermont Tech Nursing site
  • Any Vermont State College library (Castleton, NVU-Lyndon, NVU-Johnson)

Overdue & Lost Items
If an item is not returned within 14 days after the final overdue notice, you will be billed for the cost of a replacement and a library hold will be placed on your student account. If a lost item is then found and returned, your bill will be waived and the hold removed. You will not be able to register for classes, receive grades, or acquire transcripts until the bill is paid and the library hold is cleared. Please contact the library if you have questions about a bill, library hold, or to have a hold removed. If you know the item is lost, contact the library to coordinate payment or purchase. Do not purchase a replacement copy unless you have been instructed to do so by library staff. Contact hartness@vsc.edu or 1-800-431-0025 with any questions.
Guest Borrowers
Visit the circulation desk at Hartness Randolph to register as a guest. Please bring a valid Vermont photo ID. Registered guests can borrow materials in person at the Library in Randolph. For more information, refer to the Hartness Library Guest Borrower and Computer Use Policy (PDF)
