Linking to Library Resources

Supplement your course materials with articles, eBook chapters, or videos from library databases; it can help provide textbook alternatives and demonstrate the value of the library to your students. It’s also an easy way to introduce your students to research databases in your discipline.

Link to Articles & eBooks in Library Databases

Most library databases generate “permalinks” or linking tools to ensure students are prompted to log in with their VSC ID and password. Add those links to Canvas modules using the External URL and load in a new tab options for the best results. Within our EBSCO databases, link to a specific eBook chapter by selecting the chapter from the book’s Table of Contents, then clicking on the permalink option from within that chapter.

Embedding Video in Canvas Pages

You can search for and embed videos from the library’s Films on Demand and Alexander Street Video databases from within a page in Canvas. In the rich text editor menu, find the plug icon to open up the list of extension tools. Select one of the video options, search for a film by title or keyword, then embed it directly onto the page. We suggest either the small or medium sizes which work well on most mobile devices.
