What I do at the library
I handle all new material that comes into the library and give it numbers which hopefully put it with others like it but is unique so that it has its own special easy to find place in the total scheme of things. I spend lots of time editing and updating the records in our online catalog to make sure the items are indeed easy to find. I download records for ebooks too. Right now, I am editing and preparing a file of records for over 6,000 National Academies Press open access monographs. My office is cluttered with publisher’s catalogs and spare albums for Audio Visual material. When videos and audio books come with packaging that will not stand up to being circulated, I often have to create covers for them. Damaged items come to me and I repair them if I can or order replacements. I monitor the book budget and encourage our librarians to buy interesting items for our students.
What’s I’m reading/listening to/watching right now
I just watched the DVD “Hidden Figures” (recently purchased by Hartness) which I really enjoyed. My sister retired and moved back to VT a couple of years ago and we are still unpacking the 100 or so boxes of books she brought with her. I came across some old (very old) favorites and have been re-reading them: Psion by Joan Vinge, Scarface by Andre Norton, The Vanishing Boy by Alexander Key.
Favorite “hidden library gem”
I traveled from Los Angeles CA in 1977 in the back of a Datsun pickup all the way back to VT facing backward!
Hmmm, I love big dogs, admire horses and am fascinated by tigers and wolves.
What’s the most recent book you bought for the library?
The book of joy : lasting happiness in a changing world – Bstan-ʼdzin-rgya-mtsho, Dalai Lama XIV.
