What I do at the library
As Director of Hartness Library, I coordinate the operations of the Hartness Library. Since we serve both CCV and VTC we have to make sure we communicate and work together to provide what users at both colleges need. I am based at Vermont Tech and work closely with the Assistant Director who oversees operations at CCV. I feel very lucky to have a great team who are always eager to suggest and try something new. I am also liaison to several program areas at VTC – Aviation, Automotive, Diesel and Construction management so I buy for the collection in these areas and keep the faculty up to date on what’s new in their subject area. I also help with electronic resource management – there are a lot electronic resources in the library collection so it takes a few of us!
What I’m reading/listening to/watching right now
I am watching Anne with an E on Netflix. A teacher read Anne of Green Gables to our 2nd grade class and I was converted into a lifelong reader that year. I love the current production even though they have taken many liberties with the plot. Currently reading Tom Drury’s The End of Vandalism and the current college book club selection: Doodle Revolution: Unlock the Power to Think Differently by Sunni Brown.
Favorite “hidden library gem”
How to Read a Book by Mortimer J. Adler and Charles van Doren. This was originally published in 1940 and is a classic about well …. how to read a book. Even if you think you already know how, you’ll learn something.
Fun fact
I had a private pilot’s license for a couple of years.
Favorite animal
Dog.
