Using WilsonSelectPlus
1. Go to the Hartness Library web site at http://hartness.vsc.edu
2.
Mouse over Articles below the
name of the library and click on All
Databases in the dropdown menu.
3. In
the alphabetical guide at the top, click on the letter W, then on WilsonSelectPlus.
4. At Hartness Library locations, you’ll go right into
the database.
5. At home, enter your Maple User ID (initials, birth
month, birth day, zero).
6. Then enter your Maple password (initials, last four
digits of your social security number).
7.
Click on Login.
8. Enter your topic in the box next to
Keyword. You may also search or limit by
Author, Title, Source, and/or Year.
9. You don't need to
limit to Full Text because everything in this database is in full-text
format.
10. Click on Search.
11. Once you have a
list of results, clicking on the title of an article will bring up an abstract
(summary) of the article.
12. Then if you want
to see the complete article, click on View Full Text in HTML format (WilsonSelectPlus) or View Full
Text in PDF format (WilsonSelectPlus).
The difference is that HTML format consists of web pages, and in PDF
format the article looks like it does in the original print journal, but it
requires that you have Adobe Acrobat software installed on your computer.
13. Alternatively you
can go straight to the complete article from the list of results by clicking on
View Full Text in HTML format
(WilsonSelectPlus) or View Full Text in PDF format (WilsonSelectPlus)
above the article title.
14. Whichever format
option you choose, you may either print or e-mail the article to yourself.
15. To print, click
on your browser's Print button or pull down File to Print. Then click OK.
16. To e-mail the
article to yourself or someone else, click on E-mail on the top right
above the article. Then enter the e-mail
address you'd like the article sent to, and choose the record detail and format
you'd like.
17. You may also add
your name, e-mail address, subject, and notes to the e-mail, but these are not
required.
18. To see more
results if they're available, click on the small right arrow at the bottom of the list of results
or the Next button at the top of the list.
19. If you want to
make a list of selected records, you can click in the small box to the left of
each article you'd like in the list.
Then click on Marked Records
and print or e-mail the list.
20. Advanced Search
options are available from the main search screen.
