Using
Business and Company Resource Center
1.
Go to the Hartness Library web site at http://hartness.vsc.edu
2.
Mouse over Articles below the
name of the library and click on All
Databases in the dropdown menu.
3.
In the alphabetical guide at the top, click on the letter B, then on Business and Company Resource
Center.
4.
At
Hartness Library locations, you’ll go right into the
database.
5.
At
home, enter your Maple User ID (initials, birth month, birth day,
zero).
6.
Then
enter your Maple password (initials, last four digits of your social security
number).
7.
Skip to the section that says Additional Search Options for the most
detailed searching.
8.
You may click on Company,
Industry,
Articles,
or Advanced
Search.
9.
For Company searching, you may search by Company Name or Ticker Symbol,
Industry Code/Description, Product/Brand Name, Product/Brand Type, City, and/or
State/Country.
10. Results for Company searching will be
listed in descending order from the company with the highest sales revenue to
the one with the least. Click on
the name of the company for more information.
11. For Industry searching, you may search
by SIC or NAICS Code, or by Industry Description. Click on one to view more
information.
12. Results for Industry searching will be
listed as SIC Industry Codes and Descriptions. Click on one to view more
information.
13. For Article searching, you may search in
the Subject Guide, Keywords, or Text of the Article. You may limit by Journal name or Date,
and limit to Full-text articles, Peer-reviewed (scholarly) journals, Newspapers
& newswires, and/or Magazines & journals.
14. Results for Article searching will be
grouped by subject heading. Click
on View
below the subject heading, or on Narrow,
See,
or See
Also
for more information.
15. Advanced Search is especially useful for
finding business-related articles because you can combine terms, like
"accounting" and "software."
16. Across the top of results lists for
these searches you'll find index tabs with more information: Company
Profiles,
News/Magazines,
Histories,
Investment
Reports,
Financial,
Rankings,
Suits
& Claims,
Products,
Industry
Overview,
and Associations. Not all of them will be clickable for
each search.
17. Another way to search is to use the
search box to the right of Enter
your search term(s)
near the top of the screen using the dropdown menu. This doesn't provide as many
options.
18. When you have one article on the screen,
you may print by clicking on the Print
icon
on the left. Then either pull down File
to Print
or click your browser's print button.
19. To e-mail the article instead, click on
the E-mail
icon on the left. Enter the e-mail
address. Click Send.
