 2.  Click on Reference in the center of the page under the library name.

 3.  Click on Encyclopedia Britannica.

4.      At Hartness Library locations, you’ll go right into the database.

5.      At home, enter your Maple User ID (initials, birth month, birth day, zero).

6.      Then enter your Maple password (initials, last four digits of your social security number).

7.      Click on Login.

 8.  Choose which of the Britannica products (Encyclopedia Britannica, Britannica Student Encyclopedia, Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia, Britannica Concise Encyclopedia, Britannica Internet Guide, and/or Video & Media) you'd like to search by clicking in the box(es) to the left of each item.

 9.  Then enter your search in the open search box.

10.  Use quotation marks around phrases if you want them to appear word for word in your search results.  Tip for names:  Type last name first name and include both words in quotation marks.  Example: "hoover herbert"

11.  You may also use natural language and type a question in the box.   Example: "What is the longest river in Africa?"

12.  Click on Go.

13.  From the list of results, click on the titles to see more information.

14.  Alternatively you can click on the individual parts of the record below the title, next to where it says View.  All or some of these are included: Article, Images, Index Entry (outline of the whole subject, with links), Maps, Tables, Yearbooks.

15.  When you have one article on the screen, you can print by clicking on Print this article above the article itself.  Then either pull down File to Print and click OK, or click your browser's print button.

16.  To e-mail the article instead, click on E-mail this article above the article itself.  Enter the e-mail address you're sending the article to, along with optional information (Your Name, Your E-mail, Comments) if you'd like.  Click Submit.

17.  A useful feature, also found above the article itself, is a link to Cite this article.  Both APA and MLA citation forms are provided.

18.  On the right side of the results screen, you'll see a section called Additional Content.  Options here include Journals and magazines, as well as other Britannica products that have content related to your search.  Click on the titles to find out more.

19.  At the bottom of the main search screen, there are search boxes for Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary and Collegiate Thesaurus.

20.  In the Browse section below that, you can try A-Z Browse (the traditional alphabetical arrangement), World Atlas, Timeline Browse, Subject Browse, or Year in Review Browse.
