Using
American Memory
1.
Go to the Hartness Library web site at http://hartness.vsc.edu
2.
Mouse over Articles below the
name of the library and click on All
Databases in the dropdown menu.
3.
In the alphabetical guide at the top, click on the letter A, then on American Memory.
4.
Click
on Search on the right to search across all
collections.
5.
Put your topic in the open search box and
then qualify under the box as to which of your words you want to match and
whether to include word variations.
6.
On
the right of this search screen, you can first limit your search to all
Documents, Manuscripts, Printed Texts, Sheet Music,
Maps, Motion Pictures, Photos & Print, or
Sound Recordings by clicking on the one you want.
7.
Then
enter your search terms.
8.
Either
way, when you have a list of results, you’ll see the name of the special
collection on the left, and the link to the item on the right. Click on the link you’re interested
in.
9.
Another
way to search is to click on Collection Finder from the first screen,
then scroll down to the Broad Topics section and choose one of
those.
10.
Then
you can search just the collections in that broad topic
area.
11.
Below
the broad topic areas you can search by Time, Place, Library Division, or
