How to Find Books & Media
You have access to materials at the Hartness Library, as well as other Vermont State College libraries. Use the online library catalog to access these materials.
Click on the Find Books & Videos tab and select "Search the Catalog."
Keyword Searching
Type in a basic keyword on your topic. You will get a list of items that include the word that you have searched somewhere in the record. For example, it could be part of the title, publisher, etc.
In this case, since the keyword does not appear in the title, clicking on the "Details" button will provide more information.
You can see that a two of the assigned subjects for this book that include the word England; that is why this book is in the results list.
Subject Searching
A subject search will produce a list of official Subject Headings in alphabetical order, starting with the best match to your subject term.
Click on the link to see items with that subject heading. Review the information to see if it is relevant to your search.
Requesting Items
You can request to borrow materials from any of the VSC libraries.
- After locating an item in the library catalog and clicking on the "Details" button, simply select "Place Request" from within the item record. Use your VSC Web Services (Moodle) ID and password to log in.
- Your request will generate a form. Review and, if necessary, correct your contact information and submit the form.
- You will get a message indicating that "Your request has been successfully submitted." Once the item has been sent to you, it will show up in your library account, which you can access by clicking on the "My Account" link at the top of the catalog screen.
Note: There is a limit of 5 DVD/VHS items that can be checked out at one time. The total number of items that can be checked out is 15.
