Citation Styles

Establish which citation style you will use and begin to build your bibliography or works cited page.
Your faculty member will usually specify which style you need to use. The two most commonly used at
CCV are MLA (Modern Language Association) style and APA (American Psychological Association) style.

Courses in these fields tend to use MLA:

  • Communication
  • English & Literature
  • Humanities
  • Writing & Research

Courses in these fields tend to use APA:

  • Health Sciences
  • Human & Behavioral Sciences
  • Education
  • Sociology & Social Work

Documenting Information

As you find books, articles, and Internet sources on your topic, document the information you will need to cite those works.
The information you will need for most resources is:

  • author
  • title
  • date
  • publication name or publisher
  • volume, issue, & page number
  • Internet address & date viewed
